DONA PAULA: Goa Forward (GF) leader and Fatorda MLA-elect Vijai Sardesai said that his party has supported the BJP to form the next government taking into consideration stability and development.

Speaking to the media, Sardesai said, “We need a stable government and that is the reason Goa Forward has decided to support the BJP to form the next government, but we had one condition that the Defence Minister should return and take over as the Chief Minister.”

Sardesai added, “We believe that no consensus had been created in the principal party (Congress) in the interest of stability and also in the interest of taking our agenda of Goem, Goenkar, Goemkarponn forward and that is the reason we have decided to support the BJP.”

Asked what were the conditions placed by his party for supporting the BJP, Sardesai said that they have asked for a common minimum programme to be formed within a month of government formation.

“We have already given the letter of support to the BJP. Our agenda is regionalistic and we have joined and supported the BJP only because of stability and principal development of Goa with Manohar Parrikar as Chief Minister,” he said.

“We cannot waste time and opportunity for preserving Goa’s identity, hence, we had to align with the BJP,” Sardesai added.

It was evident that Sardesai was leaning towards the BJP after in an interview to a local channel he had said that Parrikar is a good CM and that Congress is backstabber.
