PONDA: Venting out his ire against the BJP, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar told mediamen their (BJP councillors’) continuous attempts to block development work in the region (Ponda) had led to a sort of detachment.

“During the five-year term, they continuously troubled me and tried to put a spoke in the wheel as far as development work for the region was concerned,” he alleged.

Regarding keeping the doors open for talks for an alliance, he said, “Why should we keep the doors open? If they want alliance, it reveals their weakness. They should come and talk. We are not dependent on them. We will prove our strength in this election. We are fully prepared in 13 assembly seats and are preparing in 22 others. We shall not play second fiddle to BJP.”

He said the Ponda BJP members and their councillors were responsible for ‘breaking’ the alliance. “They, at every step, harassed me and put up resistance as far as development projects were being planned by me.”

This, he termed, was the main reason for the strained ties between the MGP and BJP. Asked about same allegations BJP Block had levelled against him, he said, “PMC or BJP should show one example where their project in the name of development was blocked/objected by me.”

Stating examples, he came clean (on his part) on the matter with examples: He cited how the Kranti Maidan work undertaken by him through the State government was objected to. Moreover, STP projects and traffic management plans 2013 were halted by the BJP at local levels.

While on the other hand, he said, he had never halted the projects taken up by PMC. For example, PMC launched Golden Jubilee project work which is underway. And two days ago they (PMC) launched projects like garden, sports recreation, underpass, even though tenders were not floated for the same, “but I had never opposed,” he said.

Rejecting the allegations of the Chairperson who recently held MLA Lavoo as guilty and responsible for development in Ponda especially sopo issue remaining unsolved since couple of years, he said, “I opposed sopo hike by PMC because it was hiked from Rs 3 to Rs 20; even a complaint was filed with former chief minister Manohar Parrikar to investigate the matter as I smelt something fishy. However, he (Parrikar) did not take it seriously may be due to BJP-led Council. Further, their ODP plan was not consulted by PMC with locals and was passed hurriedly.”

He said BJP this time, as commented by Congress President Luizin Faleiro, would get negligible number of seats in the Assembly Election.

He said BJP failed to usher in the development for which with great hope Goans had voted the party to power. Now, the public resentment is clear. It is clear that its MLAs and ministers are merely publicising their schemes such as Ladli Laxmi, Gruhadhar, Dayanand Niradar etc.

Other than the bridges and National Highway work, he said, BJP has nothing to show on development front. Priority was not given to Zuari Bridge although Mandovi bridge work was taken up. It failed to bring development in the industrial, agricultural, economical, educational and welfare of labourer etc.

He said BJP works only for the welfare of top level party leaders while it gets party work done through the Bahujans of Goa.
