MARGAO: Amidst the tension and anxiety of the demonetisation rush came the Margao Dindi and has relaxed the Madgaokars for good.

MARGAO: Amidst the tension and anxiety of the demonetisation rush came the Margao Dindi and has relaxed the Madgaokars for good. The city was shining with lighting and resonating several cultural music sessions at Hari Mandir and Comba. The palanquin of Lord Vitthal and Rakhumayee left from the Hari Mandir in the evening and went around the town while stopping at all temples and returned to the Hari Mandir at dawn.

The Dindi festival is dedicated to the Lord Vithal and Goddess Rakhumayee and has been celebrated at Hari Mandir in Margao since 1909. The festival is celebrated on the auspicious day of ‘Kartiki Ekadashi’ and the programs are on the lines of the mohotsavs held in Pandharpur, Maharashtra.

For Margao, the festival is the most-awaited after Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali. People of Margao have completed the Tulsivivah rituals on Saturday and started flocking to the town from 7 pm onward.

For the people, the celebrations will end with a fireworks show at the Margao center but this time there has been lot of awareness regarding the pollution and the Dindi committee has decided not to have fireworks in Margao.

For the temples, the celebration ends as late as 3 am, when the palanquin of the Hari Mandir meets at the Vitthal Mandir in Comba, which is followed by bhajans and prasad.
