PANJIM: Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) Panjim candidate Raju Sukerkar on Wednesday backed out as candidate of the GSM-MGP-SS coalition citing medical grounds. He was considered to be a tough candidate against BJP’s sitting MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar.
GSM President Anand Shirodkar said, “Raju has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital and has been going through several tests. Decision over who to give the seat to, whether MGP or GSM, will be taken on Thursday.”
Sources confirmed that MGP is likely to field a candidate in the constituency, however, MGP said they are not aware of the latest developments. MGP General Secretary Lavoo Mamledar said, “If Sukerkar is backing off due to any reasons then MGP will field a candidate in Panjim constituency.”
