Govt to rename Panjim MLA as GPPDA chief

PANJIM: The BJP-led State Government is all set to reappoint its Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate as the chairman of Greater Panjim Planning and Development Area (GPPDA), which comprises of Taleigao planning area. 

Deputy Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes is likely to be elevated as Chairman of Goa Housing Board (GHB). 

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is currently in Russia, has decided to reward the deserted Congress MLAs, who had joined BJP, last month. 

Sources revealed that files pertaining to the appointments of the concerned MLAs as chairman and vice chairman of various corporations have been cleared by the departments and that orders would be issued once Chief Minister is back in Goa.

Monserrate, who was appointed as GPPDA chairman, last year, had quit the post in the run up to Panjim by-election that he had contested on Congress ticket. The Greater Panjim PDA is bifurcated from North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA), last year to facilitate Monserrate.

Sources revealed that Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias will be appointed as Mormugao PDA chairman, while Nuvem MLA Wilfred D'Sa may get South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA). 

Santa Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes is likely to be named as chairman of Goa Khadi and Village Industries Board. 

Earlier last week, Government appointed Tivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar as the chairman of Goa Info Tech Corporation. 

Chandrakant Kavlekar was rewarded with the post of Deputy Chief Minister, while Jennifer Monserrate and Felipe Neri Rodrigues got cabinet berths.
