Barretto's widely-acclaimed Konkani film wins Best Original Music award

PANJIM: The widely-acclaimed Konkani film Nachom-ia Kumpasar, which depicts the life, times and musical brilliance of Chris Perry and Lorna, has picked up yet another accolade by winning an award at the 6th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival-16 in Delhi on Saturday. 

The award for Best Original Music was announced amid applause from ecstatic crowds in the packed theatres witnessing Bardroy Barretto's multi award-winning movie screened in Goa, Australia and New Zealand on Sunday.

This is the second award that Nachom-ia Kumpasar (Let's Dance to the Rhythm) within a fortnight, after the movie won the 'best musical award' at the Golden Reel Awards at Tiburon-USA, and the sixth award since the film was released on December 4, 2014. 

The movie won five awards in 2015, consisting of the 62nd National Film Awards for Best Konkani film, Best Production Design and Special Jury Award for female actor Palomi Ghosh (India), Best Film at the London Indian Film Festival (Lebra Play Award Audience choice Award), Best Film in the out of competition category at Brasov International Film Festival (Brasov-Romania), Best original score and best music in a feature, Silver, at the Global Music Award United States (California-USA) and Best director for foreign film, best original score, best sound design at the Milan International Film makers festival (Italy).

Nachom-ia Kumpasar was also included in the shortlist for the 2016 Oscars.

The movie has been screened across the world at USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, Qatar, Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Bahamas, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore. 

It has participated at various film festivals to critical acclaim, including the Melbourne Indian Film Festival, Mexico Cinefest, Chicago South Asian Film Festival, Seattle South Asian Film Festival, Mumbai Audio & Moving Images Festival (MAMI), All Lights International Film Festival, Kochi, International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Bahamas International Film Festival, Honolulu South Asian Film Festival, Victoria Film Festival Canada and Rapid Lion - South African International Film Festival.
