VASCO: The election battle in Cortalim constituency is becoming more interesting day by day. Though the aspirants in fray are making efforts to keep their vote bank intact, however almost all of them have also shifted their maximum focus on Zuarinagar slums which would decide the fate of candidates.

Today, the discarded lot in this slum have suddenly become so important for the politicians in their quest for victory in this constituency. Everyday a new leader comes to their homes promising them the moon. But this time voters have decided to play smart. They have decided to say ‘Yes’ to all but to vote for the candidate who would fulfill his promise.

Interestingly, all these years, this slum was a neglected site with people living without basic facilities. Even open defecation and garbage was like a normal issue. However, with few weeks left for elections, politicians visiting this slum have started feeling the pinch. Some even donated toilets for the residents with the claim that if they are voted to power, they would find a solution to open defecation in Zuarinagar either by providing community toilets or individual toilets.

Also there was a time when having proper toilet facilities here was a distant dream as public toilets were in dilapidated condition, however considering elections, not only public toilets have been repaired but some politicians have even donated new community toilets in the area, to win over the voters there.
