Parrikar says assurance given during assembly election has been fulfilled; MLA Lobo thanks all for the effort and success
CALANGUTE: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday inaugurated the parallel bridge at Arpora-Calangute.
Parrikar inaugurated the bridge in the presence of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, PWD Minister Sudhin Dhavalikar, GSIDC Chairman and MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Calangute Parish Priest Fr Cypriano D’Silva, Calangute ZP member Shawn Martins, sarpanchas of Arpora-Nagoa and Parra, Sushma Nagvekar and Delaila Lobo, Deputy Sarpanchas of Arpora-Nagoa, Roshan Redkar and Kamla Lingudkar, panchayat members of Candolim, Parra, Arpora-Nagoa, PWD Principal Engineer Dattaprasad Sinai Borkar, Calangute BJP President Gurudas Shirodker, PWD officials and villagers of Calangute, Arpora-Nagoa-Baga, Candolim, Saligao, Sangolda and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Parrikar said, “I am happy that the assurance given to the villagers of Arpora-Nagoa, Calangute and others while addressing election rally in 2012 has been finally fulfilled with the inauguration of the parallel bridge at Arpora-Calangute.”
“There was however unfortunate delay due to technical and land acquisition process for starting the work. Now, with the inauguration of the bridge, there will be smooth flow of traffic which otherwise witnessed traffic jams,” he added.
Chief Minister Parsekar said majority of the bridges in Goa in recent times have been constructed by the government and the same have been done considering the development of Goa.
“Construction of bridges and widening of roads leads to progress and development of villages and Goa as a whole,” he said.
Giving credit for the project, MLA Lobo thanked Parrikar for his initiative which paid off and praised Chief Minister Parsekar, Dhavalikar and Dr Sawant for their support and the contractor Dulai Pandian of M/s Bagkiya Constructions Pvt Ltd for completing the project.
Fr D’Silva said he was happy for the development in Calangute, which will benefit common people and assured his co-operation.
Principal engineer Borkar outlined the project, while Anthony Menezes and Gurudas Shirodker also addressed the gathering. Earlier, Arpora-Nagoa Panch Agostinho D’Souza welcomed while Suddesh Shirodker compered the programme.
Arpora-Nagoa Sarpanch Sushma Nagvekar proposed the vote of thanks.
