Constituency First Look is only an introduction to the build-up for the polls. These reports merely seek to inform readers of the ground level political movements and will not even remotely be an analysis of the mood or the strength of parties or individuals. Today we look at Valpoi and feel the pulse

The MLA has failed to address the main issue of unemployment in his constituency; Jr Rane is yet to come clear as to whether he would contest on Congress ticket or as Independent; AAP and BBSM to play a vital role in the forthcoming elections

Vishwajit Rane’s home turf - Valpoi is plagued with several burning issues such as unemployment, water, hefty power bills and irregular health services, which are likely to take centre stage during the upcoming Goa Legislative Assembly elections.
Jr Rane, who during his tenure as the state’s Health and Agriculture Minister in the erstwhile Congress regime, had assured to solve the above issues plaguing the constituency. Being in the Opposition since last five years, he has failed to address the main issue of unemployment in his constituency.
Valpoi constituency comprises five panchayats of Nagargao, Sanvordem, Khotoda, Guleli and Usgao and the all important Valpoi municipality.
The forthcoming election will be of utmost importance for both the BJP and Congress.
Last year, Satyvijay Naik who contested against Vishwajit in the 2012 elections, will contest on the BJP ticket in the forthcoming elections.
Valpoi BJP Mandal has stated that the Satyvijay Naik will be in the fray for the forthcoming elections. Though Vishwajit contested the last assembly election on the Congress ticket, there seems to confusion among the people regarding the selection of the party candidate for forthcoming elections.
Jr Rane is yet to come clear as to whether he would contest on a Congress ticket or as an Independent.
His existence depends on Poriem constituency, in which his father and existing Opposition Leader Pratapsingh Rane is the MLA.
If senior Rane is willing to retire from active politics then there is a possibility of Vishwajit Rane shifting himself from Valpoi to Poriem paving way for his wife Dr Divya Vishwajit Rane to contest from Valpoi in the forthcoming elections.
If Vishwajit contests as an Independent then such a situation would put the Congress in a fix to select its candidate.
Besides Vishwajit and Satyvijay, the AAP and BBSM will also play an important role in the forthcoming elections.
AAP has already held a series of meetings in Valpoi to examine the situation. They have finalised the manifesto at a special meeting with the locals.
Vishwesh Prabhu is likely to go ahead with the party candidates.
If BBSM decides to contest the elections, this move may create panic among other political parties.
In such a situation, Ranjit Rane, a social activist could be one of the candidates from the organisation.
BJP is dominant in the panchayats of Nagargao, Khotoda, Sanvordem and Guleli, while    Vishwajeet Rane has the upper hand in Usgao and Valpoi municipal areas.
BJP claimed that this could prove to be an important factor to conquer Valpoi constituency but Vishwajeet Rane rebuts the same.
Even as some panchayats are supporting the BJP, the Congress has bagged two ZP seats Nagargao and Usgao with Premnath Hazare and Dnyneshwar Naik emerging victorious.
