Chief Minister keeps Info & Publicity dept with him, doesn’t touch Dhavalikar’s ministries

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Sunday allotted Forest, Environment and Panchayat portfolios to the recently inducted minister Rajendra Arlekar. Parsekar has taken away Information and Publicity portfolios from Milind Naik and kept them under him. The information department handles the IFFI. IFFI's 46th edition will begin here from November 20.

Arlekar was inducted into Parsekar’s Cabinet on Thursday. After getting a go-ahead from the Governor on Sunday, the new list of portfolios was released. Earlier, the Panchayat portfolio belonged to Dayanand Mandrekar and Alina Saldhana was the Forest & Environment Minister.

Arlekar was sworn in on October 1. The slot fell vacant after GVP legislator Mickky Pacheco was jailed for six months. Mickky was arrested after Supreme Court upheld his conviction for assaulting a public servant.

Parsekar has given RDA to Alina. She's also in charge of Science & Technology and Museum Department.

However, there were speculations that Arlekar would either be given the portfolio of PWD, Transport or Education. But none of the portfolios under Dhavalikar brothers were touched by Parsekar. All portfolios, including PWD, Transport, River Navigation, Factories & Boilers, Craftsman Training and Printing & Stationery remained with Dhavalikar brothers.
