Raheja project comes knocking at Carmona again

MARGAO: After refusing to move out of the meeting when the matter of Raheja housing project found its way back to the gram sabha seeking approvals from the panchayat, the Carmona gram sabha resolved to discuss the matter threadbare in 15 days at a special gram sabha meeting.

The issue that had rocked the village two years ago when the villagers had opposed Raheja Universal Pvt Ltd Housing project from getting panchyat permissions, surfaced again as the pancahyat placed before the gram sabha Raheja’s application.

The pancahyat secretary informed that Raheja had approached the panchayat for licence after securing permission from TCP, besides environment and pollution board clearances.

The agitated members cried foul over the permissions given to the builders despite their massive agitation and resolutions in the past and following lengthy deliberations it was resolved that a special gram sabha be convened to discuss matter. The members were livid when they found out that the matter is still being considered and demanded an explanation on the same.

It was further resolved that the pancahayat would discuss the Raheja issue at its monthly meeting.

 and take appropriate decisions after seeking legal opinion and technical expertise from architects and place its decision at the next gram sabha.

At the meeting the gram sabha, members also demanded to know why there had been a delay in undertaking the proposed development of the playground owned by the pancahayat. The gram sabha was informed that the proposed project estimated to cost Rs 1.5 crore has been approved by the directorate of pancahyats and that it’s now awaiting the government’s nod.

The issue of the failure of the electricity department in issuing month-wise bills to the consumers also figured at the meeting. Villagers also complaint about the bad conditions of the roads in the village and demanded that they be restored to its normal conditions soon.
