The goal is to make the state a IT destination with the infrastructure in place
PANJIM: Amidst allegations Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte is pushing the IT Park in Chimbel village, and should instead shift the project to his constituency, the minister on Friday announced the Techno Park would be created at Porvorim too.
During a presentation of the white paper on the proposed IT Park at Chimbel, Khaunte said the projects would only prove a boon for the locals in varied sectors such as employment generation. The only difference between the two IT Parks would be the setup of the blocks at Chimbel which would be in the Indo-Portuguese style while Porvorim would have modern structure.
“We need to make Goa as the IT destination, a knowledgeable destination; and to ensure this the infrastructure is to be in place. We are very clear about the plan at Chimbel and in Porvorim too, the three village panchayats have showed their support. The projects would create employment and stop the brain drain,” he said.
Khaunte reiterated the project will be eco-friendly with green building and no burden on electricity and water supply.
In Chimbel where the project is being vehemently opposed by a certain section of villagers, the minister said that not only the youth but students, senior citizens and housewives will be provided skill development training to ensure employment in the village. “In Chimbel, at least 5-7,000 people will get job opportunity while IT hub at Porvorim will create jobs for around 2-2500 locals,” he added.
Khaunte further said the government was joining hands with multinational companies to set up skilling academies to graduates to make them industry ready.
Asked when the project would commence, the minister told reporters the file is under financial clearance with the government and upon approval, the tendering process would be initiated. “The work should begin in the next 2-4 months and we expect the first phase in Chimbel and Porvorim to be ready within 12-18 months,” he said.
The three blocks to be created at the project Chimbel IT Park, Khaunte added each of these will comprise of Start Up Hub, Techno Hub and IT Hub.
The white paper on Chimbel IT Park, he said, was appreciated by the legislators who attended the presentation. “We have even received proposal from Congress leader Pratapsing Rane to bring such a project tin Sattari and Sancoale representatives too want this project there. People are understanding the need for IT Park in Goa,” he said.
The minister, speaking at a press conference held after the presentation said he would like to have these parks in each taluka so that the local youths get employment opportunities.
Urging to not oppose the project in Chimbel without understanding the subject clearly, Khaunte also warned that any person opposing for their personal benefit would be taken to task.
