AC not functioning for three months!
PANJIM: The central air conditioning of the Operation Theatre for the orthopaedic department has not been functioning for the last three months making life miserable for the surgeons, patients and others inside the operation theatre.
The non-functioning AC has made the surgeons perform operations under substandard conditions. Surgeons as well as other staff wear lead aprons when performing operations to protect themselves from radioactivity from the machines and equipment that they use. Inside the lead apron, in a sealed, sterilised room with a non functioning AC is nothing short of hell for all involved.
What’s worse is the orthopaedic department has to sometimes conduct 8-10 operations a day given that almost every serious
accident case, not just road accidents, involving broken bones and related complications requiring surgery. And the GMC receives patients from all over the state and most of them serious.
The maintenance of the AC has been entrusted to the GSIDC who have discovered that the fault lies with the compressor of the AC, which needs to be replaced and needs to be brought from Bangalore. However three months down the line it is yet to be replaced.
Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was not available for comments when Herald tried to contact him.
