PANJIM: In what could be another move to further sink former Goa Cricket Association chief Dayanand Narvekar, the government proposes to take action to demolish a jetty at Malim alleged to be illegally constructed by Golden Heritage Pvt Ltd, a company registered under the name of Narvekar’s wife.
According to Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, only the village panchayat of Penha de Franca had given its permission. However the captain of ports had not granted permission as no NOC was obtained from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar lost no time in replying that action would be initiated from Monday and the jetty would be removed within
a month’s time.
Similarly in another reply to the Goa Assembly, Environment Minister Alina Saldanha said that action would be taken against illegalities carried out by a hotel within the constituency of St Andre.
The MLA Vishnu Wagh complained bitterly that the project has caused damage to the environment and has not brought any benefits to the locals.
He sought to know why the environment ministry had not taken any action for two months after a show cause notice was issued.
Saldanha said that the inspection would be conducted again and assured stringent action in the matter. While the minister agreed that a retaining wall which was being constructed had been stopped, Wagh said that the project promoters have also changed the course of the stream using concrete.
