PANJIM: P R Nadkarni, an educationist, who gave up his claim for the post of State Information Commissioner on Friday, has told the State Government that ‘he had to face mental torture due to media trial’ which followed his selection.
“There has been hue and cry created in the media over my reported
candidature for the post of State Information Commissioner,” Nadkarni has said in the letter addressed to the State Government.
“There has been a deliberate attempt to malign my image and reputation of last several decades and unfortunately media trial has caused mental torture and harassment for me and my family,” the educationist further stated in the letter.
The letter written on Friday had stated that ‘he has no interest in the appointment and has decided not to accept the post of Information Commissioner.’
The letter, which has clarified all the allegations against him raised by media, has also requested that proper investigations be done in all the allegations levelled against him.
“I appeal to the government to initiate investigation into the allegations,” said Nadkarni, who has been a prominent figure in the field of education.
“Allow me to live a peaceful life at this age of 60,” he pleaded in the last sentence of the two-page letter.
Nadkarni in a detailed reply has said that he is associated with several social, cultural and educational organisations at the State and national levels. “I am also being invited to work as resource person on several aspects of education all over the State. It is not possible for me to discontinue my association with them,” he said.
Moreover, he added, that he has given a verbal commitment to one of the leading industrial houses of Goa to work as a consultant for their upcoming educational project.
In another letter, which is a response to the notice issued to him by Director of Information, Nadkarni has attached letter from S S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Altinho, which certifies that he is a member of local managing committee of the college.
He has said that he was a member of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education between 1991-93 and due to saving error on the computer his bio-data mentions that he is a member on the board.
Nadkarni said that he was director of Manipal Academy of Health and Education till March 31, 2012 and has been reappointed recently on the academy.
He has also refused that he has any association with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
