Sardinha launches rail ticket booking at Raia post office

MARGAO: Villagers of Raia and neighouring areas of Rachol, Curtorim need not go to the Margao railway station any more to book railway tickets. They can now very well book the tickets from the Raia Post office as the Railway passenger reservation scheme through post offices has become a reality in Goa from Saturday.
The
scheme has been launched at the Raia post office and will be gradually extended at the Cuncolim post office and other post offices in the State.
After inaugurating the service, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said railway tickets of both South Western railway and Konkan railway can be booked from the post office. He urged the postal authorities to be courteous with the local villagers for the success of the scheme. Sardinha appealed to the people not to get misled over the FDI controversy, said the FDI in retail will be applicable only in major cities with population of over 10 lakh.
South Western Railway’s chief commercial inspector H S Suresha said even Tatkal tickets can be booked from the Raia post office.
In his address, Postmaster General, Goa region Charles Lobo said the ticket reservation facility will be extended to other post offices in due course of time. While attributing the delay in getting the hardware from the railways. Lobo said all the 104 post offices in Goa have been computerized and assured better services for the people of Goa.
