State has failed to set up FRRO: Naik
December 25, 2012
PANJIM: Congress MP Shantaram Naik today lamented that the Goa Government has not established Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) despite Foreigners Registration Office under the state Government being delegated FRRO powers since May 2012.
In a press statement issued today, Naik said that unfortunately the stand
of Goa Police is that they do not have separate space and required staff to handle the powers of FRRO.
“Issuing of Persons of Indian Origin Card is one of the most important functions of the FRRO and Goans residing in the State and who are interested to apply for PIO Card have to go to Delhi for getting PIO Card,” he said.
He further said that since the government has taken a stand not to endure additional burden unless they are provided with requisite facilities and infrastructure; those who have applied for PIO card or of those who propose take this facility are in a fix.
“This is like being “Na ghar ka na ghat ka” (neither here nor there),” he added.
He has now proposed to approach Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, in this regard.
