MARGAO: Garbage issue dominated the gram sabha of the village panchayat of Varca on Sunday, with the panchayat body outlining its plans to tackle the issue on a priority basis from coming Sunday.
When the issue of garbage collection and disposal came up for discussions, members demanded that the panchayat body take urgent steps to tackle the issue.
Sarpanch Luiza Rodrigues told the gram sabha that the panchayat body has taken a decision to start collecting waste from the village. She explained that the households will be given plastic bags to store the waste, which will be collected, segregated and dispatched for recycling.
“From coming Sunday, the panchayat will
start the exercise of collecting the waste ward wise”, she announced.
The mega housing issue also figured at the meeting though it was not listed on the agenda. The Sarpanch, however, pointed out that she has not issued any licenses for any mega housing projects nor has issued any occupancy certificates for any project.
The panchayat has also decided to utilize the ambulance as an utility van for the benefit of the villagers.
The issue of tenants and other outsiders holding ration cards and EPIC cards also figured at the meeting, with members demanding deletion of their names from the electoral roll and the ration cards.
On this count, the sarpanch informed the members to bring to the notice of the panchayat specific information on outsiders enjoying ration and EPIC cards.
