PANJIM: Twenty-one-year-old student from Morlem-Sattari, who committed suicide a fortnight ago, has in his suicide note, requested Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to act against the girl’s family, who were responsible for harassing him and threatening to rape his sister, which finally led him to take the extreme step.

medium; text-align: justify; ">Arjun Mainkar, a third year college student, apparently committed suicide due to harassment meted out to him by the girl’s family after he shot an MMS clip of his girlfriend and himself.

In the last paragraph of the suicide note written in Konkani and Marathi has said that the chief minister should take action against the culprits, who coaxed him into ending his life.

The victim’s father Bablo is reportedly working at the official residence of the chief minister at Altinho, Panjim.

The suicide note mentions that the culprits threatened to rape his sister by hiring goons. Interestingly, all the culprits named in the suicide note have not been arrested although their names are referred to in the First Information Report (FIR) at Valpoi police station.

In his suicide note, the youth blamed four persons – Narayan Harischandra Shetye, Rohidas, Kalidas and the girl’s mother Laxmi Laxman for threatening to get his sister raped.

“I request our Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar alias Bhai to take action against the three brothers and initiate police action against them,” the suicide note states.

In July, after the issue of the MMS surfaced, the village committee was called wherein Arjun signed on an affidavit confirming that he will marry the girl once she attains the age of majority.

But constant harassment and threats from the girl’s family forced him to commit suicide. Paternal Uncle Yesso Mainkar had lodged a complaint before the Valpoi police station against the accused.

Arjun has mentioned in his two-page suicide note that though he admitted his mistake which was unintentional as he truly loved his girlfriend and agreed to marry her, the three brothers would threaten him that his sister would be raped.

“Wherever her brothers would see me, they would threaten to kick me and beat me and make me nude. They also threatened to send goondas to rape my sister… Her mother would also speak foul about my sister,” another paragraph of his suicide note reads.

Arjun stated how his family members were also threatened several times. “After all this, I am fed of my life. Ever since they spoke (bad) about my sister it has shocked me and because of this I am committing suicide,” he further wrote in the suicide note.

In a further revelation, sources informed that little while before committing suicide the youth at about 5.23 am on August 5 sent an SMS to one of his close relatives, pleading to take care of his family and to ensure that the culprits are punished.

“Hey bhai, plz majya pappak ayeek ani didik sambhal re n plz n plz maji case jagad saglenk sambhai. Ani maji ji koni vaat lailya grup karun tenka ani tya tiga bhavank kasech sodu naka plz he ekut magta plz lastache. Bye @,” the message read.

Before this message, the youth had called his sleeping father who was at his work place saying ‘I just wanted to hear you’. Bablo took it casually as he has been staying away from his son due to his work.

The family members are apprehensive about the investigation as the police have taken the laptop in which the boy has probably saved certain documents related to the harassment. The affidavit of marriage is supposedly lying with the girl’s family members.
