PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded a police enquiry into the fire incident at the foothills of Neura village in St Andre constituency two days ago wherein crops belonging to six families were gutted in the fire.
BJP Spokesperson and St Andre candidate Vishnu Surya Wagh while addressing a press conference on Tuesday here alleged that the fire incident was not accidental and it was politically motivated as six families that suffered loss due to the fire are supporters of
the BJP.
Wagh demanded a proper enquiry into the fire incident as similar fires have also occurred in other hilly parts of the constituency. He alleged that parts of hills in Neura and Batim had been flattened and it has blessing of the local MLA.
BJP Vice President Dr Wilfred Mesquita has said that he would demand from Election Commission to declare St Andre a sensitive constituency and to videograph activities of the leaders to avoid scuffles. BJP has filed a police complaint at Agassaim police station alleging that St Andre MLA’s brother Anton Silveira along with his supporters, threatened to kill their candidate.
They disrupted a corner meeting held by Wagh in Neura, on Saturday night. Agassaim Police have arrested one person in this incident.
