PANJIM: In a now familiar pattern of the BJP coalition government undoing the policies and action of previous Congress government, tenders of various works worth between Rs 15 to Rs 50 crore issued by the Congress government are slated for cancellation by the present Public Works Department (PWD) Ministry.
justify; ">The PWD Principal Chief Engineer J J S Rego said, “These were tenders pertaining to road maintenance works issued earlier this year.” Some of the tenders were allegedly issued without following proper norms while in other cases there was a duplication of works reported, it is claimed.
Sources in the ministry say that the tenders were issued for road works in different constituencies including Ponda and Sanguem.
The orders for cancelling the tenders have been issued by PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar recently and the department is in the process of doing so.
The tenders are being cancelled despite the fact that in many cases work orders have already been issued.
Not willing to divulge much information, the PCE said that the PWD ministry is of the opinion that the works are not necessarily required and tenders will be cancelled even if work orders are issued. He claimed, “So far none of the works have been initiated.”
