PANJIM: In a major development, Directorate of Mines and Geology has asked Congress member Dinar Tarcar to close down all mining activities including transportation of ore from a mine at Temebocheo Dongor (TC No 59/51).
The mine operated by Tarcar through Power of Attorney at Caurem and Maina
has been found to have extracted several million tons of Ore, illegally.
‘It is seen from the environmental clearance issued for your mine that the stipulated production limit is 0.3 MTPA of iron ore and 0.0005 MTPA of manganese ore per annum. However it has been observed that the extraction of ore has been more then 7,00,000 metric tones and is lying stacked at your lease site,’ the notice issued by Director Mines Arvind Lolienkar reads.
The notice served on September 28 has stated that the department has received several complaints from various sources claiming that there has been excess production of ore.
‘According to records furnished in this office, the total production shown in the monthly returns as well as additional information furnished, is 2,98,014 MT towards fresh production and 3,75,740 MT towards dump handling,’ the notice stated.
‘Directions are being issued to stop all the mining activities including transportation of ore from the said mine and dump site with immediate effect till the officials of the department visits and matter stands clarified,’ the notices concluded.
Herald, had earlier exposed how Tarcar has cheated the government by avoiding huge amounts of export duty by under-invoicing of his exports.
Similarly, State Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee has also pointed to the illegal extraction of iron ore in excess capacity from the said mine.
