PANJIM: Despite the party being cornered from all sides over several corruption scams, the Congress election campaign manager Mauvin Godinho says “Congress’ victory in forthcoming election is a forgone conclusion.”
Addressing a press conference to announce the list of 22 candidates for the March 3 polls, Godinho said that the party is confident of gaining majority on its own.
“We are ready to accept certain drawbacks and the party is doing course correction,” he said referring to the various scams of the Digambar Kamat government.
On the RP2021, Mauvin stated, “the government cannot take any policy decision as of now, due to code of conduct but we will definitely rectify the mistakes after elections.”
“We will seek opinions of all the stakeholders and then decide on RP 2021,” Mauvin informed.
On the medium of instruction issue too he said the Congress was not to be blamed.
“We wanted to give parents a choice. What future they want for their child whether they want him/ her to learn in English, Marathi or Konkani,” Mauvin said.
Referring to the 2G scam, which has rocked the Congress ship, he stated the issue has been blown out of proportion by the Opposition BJP.
“In the entire judgment there is no reference of any wrongdoing by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram,” Mauvin said adding “the whole process of 2G was started by the NDA and was merely completed by the UPA.”
Mauvin said all these issues have been raked up only due to election.
However, despite this the Congress has been able to convince the people that “it is the government of aam admi and we have good response from the people.”
“That Congress will rule again in Goa is a foregone conclusion no matter what tricks the Opposition plays,” he opined.
