MARGAO: The Margao police late Wednesday night nabbed the seventh accused in the dacoity case.
Acting Margao PI Gurudas Kadam informed that accused Kalandar Baba Immamsab Haigal was arrested late last night, adding “with the arrest of Kalandar, all the seven accused involved in the dacoity was stands arrested”. The police are investigating.

CANACONA: Burglars decamped with a mobile phone and a laptop worth Rs 30,000 at Rajbag Tarir, Canacona.
In her compliant, one Boby Mahesh Naik of Rajbag Tarir told police that between 10 pm on June 26 and 7.30 am on June 27, burglars stole a mobile phone and a laptop belonging to her daughter. PSI Uday Gaude is investigating the case.
Keri man found dead
PONDA: A 54-year-old man from Karmal-Keri, Ponda, was found dead on Wednesday.
According to police, one Punaji Kerkar was brought dead at GMC Hospital in Bambolim. PSI G N Bhandari is investigating the case.
Scooter stolen at Calangute
CALANGUTE: A scooter was reported stolen at Calangute on Tuesday.
In his compliant, one Domnic D’Souza of Guirim told police that his Honda scooter (GA-03-K-9818) which was parked in the open space near Bandodkar statue at Calangute was stolen. Police is investigating the case.
Two hurt in mishap
VASCO: A motorcyclist and a pillion rider were injured when they were knocked down by a car near Chicalim Panchayat.
According to police, the accident occurred when Trevor Nunes and pillion rider Anthony Vaz, both from Sancoale, were proceeding in their Splendor motorcycle (GA-06-C-0899).
On reaching near Chicalim Panchayat, Maruti car (GA-06-A-6685), which was proceeding from Vasco towards Cortalim, while overtaking a tanker (KA-22-64010 dashed against the motorcycle, injuring Nunes and Vaz. Police is investigating the case.
Parra local dies in GMC
PORVORIM: A resident of Parra died at GMC Hospital in Bambolim on Wednesday.
According to police, one Ulhas Chavan, who was admitted in GMC Hospital, died while undergoing medical treatment. Body has been preserved in GMC morgue and PSI Gautam Salunke is investigating the case.
Cyclist knocked down
PORVORIM: A 62-year-old cyclist from Guirim was seriously injured after he was knocked down by a car near Bodgeshwar Temple, Mapusa.
According to police, the accident occurred when cyclist Amanulla Khan (62) was proceeding towards Tivim. On reaching near the Bodgeshwar Temple, Maruti car (GA-03-C-0129) dashed the bicycle, seriously injuring Khan (62).
Police arrested car driver Tanesh Talkatkar (20) from Bhovtawada-Assagao for driving in a rash and negligent manner. Police is investigating the case.
Forgery case against civic employee
MARGAO: Following a complaint lodged by Margao Municipal Chief Officer J B Bhingui, the Margao police has registered a case of forgery for the purpose of cheating against two persons, including an employee of the civic body.
Acting Margao PI Gurudas Kadam told newsmen that the Chief Officer lodged his complaint stating that a salary certificate in the name of civic worker Subhash Chari was submitted to the Margao Urban Cooperative Bank for the purpose of obtaining loan for one Salvador D’Souza. He said the Chief Officer has maintained that his office had never issue the salary certificate and has requested the Margao police to investigate the matter.
PI Kadam said that the police has registered a case of forgery for the purpose of cheating against both Subhash Chari and Salvador. The police are investigating.

Karaoke enthusiasts entertain Vascoites
PANJIM: A unique gathering of Karaoke enthusiasts from various parts of Goa sharing their talent on facebook group "Goa-India Karaoke group" converged in Vasco to share a Karaoke session promoted by C-LIBZ. The session enlightened the use of digital Karaoke equipment without making use of any musical instruments to sing melodies by syncing with the lyrics displayed on the screen to the accompaniment of music. Founder member of Goa-India Karaoke group S Fernandes candidly shared his views that the objective of his group is to encourage people to sing. The objective of the group is not just to achieve fame or celebrity status, but to help people to overcome their stress. Karaoke is an exercise to negate the unavoidable ill effects on health created due to the innumerable inconsistencies, he said. Fire fighting seminar held
PANJIM: Government ITI, Margao in collaboration with Mangalore Institute of Fire & Safety Engineering (MIFSE), Hubli, organized a ‘Fire and Safety’ seminar for the trainees of the Institute. The seminar was conducted by Aziz Ahmed, Safety Trainer & Consultant for MIFSE who delivered a lecture on fire & safety measures and later gave a live demonstration on how to use fire fighting equipments. Konkani book to be released
PANJIM: Goa Konkani Akademi (GKA) in joint collaboration with Directorate of Art and Culture, Panjim will organise a book release function on July 4 at 5.30 pm at Multipurpose Hall, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panjim. ‘Hav Aso Ghadalo’, the book is a Konkani translation of original Marathi biography written by Dr Bhalchandra Munngekar, MP Rajya Sabha and ex-member of Central Planning Commission and Ex-Chancellor of Mumbai University and also a member of ST Welfare Committee. The book is translated in Konkani by writer Hema Nayak. Speaker Rajendra Arlekar will be the chief guest for the function. Adv Shantaram Nayak, Rajya Sabha MP will be the special invitee for the function. Noted critic Prof Bhushan Bhave will speak about the book. Govt offers incentives for joining armed forces
PANJIM: To encourage Goan youth to join the armed forces, the government has introduced a monetary incentive scheme. Under this scheme Rs 1,00,000 will be provided to the Goan youth who is commissioned in the armed forces through Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as a Permanent Commissioned Officer. Similarly Rs 50,000 to the Goan youth who is commissioned in the armed forces through UPSC as Short Service Commissioned Officer and Rs 25,000 to the Goan youth who join armed forces in any rank below Commissioned Officer. This scheme is also applicable to the Goan youth who is commissioned in the armed forces through NCC entry schemes. Photo IDs essential in hotels, guest houses
PANJIM: The District Magistrate, North Goa has ordered the owners or managements of all hotels, lodging and boarding, private guest houses, paying guest accommodation of all religious bodies, not allow any visitor/guest to check in without providing any photo identity proof such as smart card, election card, employment card, ATM card or any other photo identity card issued by recognised authorities and the in-charge of such accommodation shall provide all such information for inspection to the police authorities. This order comes into force from June 29, and shall be effective for a period of 60 days upto August 28, (both days inclusive) unless withdrawn earlier, says an official press release.
