CRC Chinchinim champions

PANJIM: CRC Chinchinim edged past Sporting Club of Davorlim 8-7 via the sudden death to emerge champions in 4th Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup Soccer tournament, organised by Young Strikers Club, Benaulim, at St. John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, here, Sunday. No goals were scored at full time. 
In the first half, CRC had a golden opportunity to forge ahead but striker Jolex Fernandes was denied by rival keeper Sachin Asthikar. Davorlim's dangerous Venson Figueiredo was well marked by Chinchinim defender Bryan Pinto and the other striker Perryson Rebello lacked support from the midfield where Anthony Furtado worked hard to establish control.
After resumption, Davorilm could have taken the lead but CRC’s goalkeeper David Rebello came to the side’s rescue, saving a close range shot of Perryson. CRC also had an opportunity to score the match-winner but Dickson shot wide from close in the closing stages.
In the tie-breaker, Cletus Pereira, Dickson Rebello, Benson Fernandes, Jayson Noronha, Jolex Fernandes, Bryan Pinto, Ryan Fernandes and David Rebello scored for CRC while Venson Figueiredo, Peryyson, Paxton Gomes, Anthony Furtado, Vincent Colaco, Andrew Colaco and Melvin Figueiredo converted for Davorlim.
CRC received Rs. 30,000 and a trophy while Davorlim had to be content with Rs. 25,000 plus a trophy. The following prizes were awarded -- Best goalkeeper of the tournament: Sachin Ashitakr (Davorilm), best defender of the tournament: Malcolm Fernandes (Betalbatim), top scorer of the tournament: Dennis Fernandes (YS Benaulim), best player of the tournament: Venson Figuieredo (Davorlim), best midfielder of the finals: Ryan Fernandes (CRC), best defender of the finals: Bryan Pinto (CRC), best striker of the finals: Perryson Rebello (Davorlim), best goalkeeper of the finals: David Rebello (CRC), man-of-the-finals: Anthony Furtado (Davorlim).
Earlier, organising secretary Anthony Rodrigues welcomed. Treasurer Henry Patrick compered and proposed the vote of thanks.
Chief guest Caitu D' Silva, Benaulim MLA, was introduced to the players by Filipe Fernandes in the presence of Royla Fernandes, Xavier Pereira and others.
