Denzil powers Betalbatim into semis

MARGAO: Striker Denzil Rogtao’s hat-trick powered Betalbatim Sporting Club to a thumping 3-1 win over Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim and to cruise into the semi-finals of all-Goa Muriel Faleiro memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Parish Youth, Nuvem at church ground, Nuvem, Monday. Betalbatim led 1-0 at half time.
Betalbatim dominated both sessions with striker Denzil troubling the rival defence with raids. Betalbatim forged ahead through Denzil. Wilred tried their best to neutralise the lead but their efforts were thwarted by the alert rival defenders.
After resumption, Wilred looked listless against the strong Betalbatim side and hardly tested the rival defence. Denzil who was on song, struck for the second time when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper off a pass from Malcom Fernandes.
Stung by the setback, Wilred fought back and reduced the deficit when Daisly Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with an adroit placement off a Bruno Fernandes through pass.
Later, Denzil drove the final nail into the rival coffin when he blasted home his third.
