Figo mesmerizes as Goa trounce India XI

MARGAO: Portugal soccer icon Luis Figo displayed near flawless, excellent technique reminiscent of his former glory days as he led Goa XI to a 4-1 victory over India XI in a friendly match to mark the finale of YCL at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Thursday.
About 5,000 fans greeted the ex-world star and they went berserk as Figo scored a goal. That apart, his passes were delightful.
Goa broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when Figo sent a defence splitting pass to Pandya who scored. Figo doubled the lead soon after resumption off Denzil Franco.
India captain Beto reduced the deficit as he hooked the ball over goalkeeper Presley Mascarenhas.
Goa’s Nickson Castana made it 3-1 and Steven Dias rounded off the tally.
