MARGAO: Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club, Paroda shocked Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 8-7 via the sudden death to storm into the quarter-finals
of South Goa Honey Bee Friendship Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Salcete Football Club at Rosary ground, Navelim, Wednesday. There was no score at full time.
Don Bosco enjoyed a slight edge with Francis Andrade working tirelessly. They scored when Francis Andrade’s free kick eluded the rival defense and lurking Danny Dias punted the ball in. However, the referee disallowed the Don Bosco nearly struck soon after resumption but Francis Andrade’s left footer was blocked by the Paroda goalkeeper.
At the fag end, Don Bosco could have found the match-winner but Rojer Azavedo’s try hit the let post.
In between, Paroda’s Pascoal Fernandes free kick from the centre was halted by the Don Bosco goalkeeper.
In the penalty shoot out, Pascoal Fernandes, Melwyn Fernandes, Sheldon Dias, Adison D”Costa, Patrick Lima, Willy Fernandes, Milton D’Costa were on target for Fr Agnel. Rojer Azavedo, Francis Andrade, Fredrick Vaz, Trevence Silva, Ovidio Dias, Carlton Pereira, Danny Dias converted for Don Bosco. In the sudden death, Anthony Fernandes was successful for Fr Agnel while Mahesh Kambli failed for Don Bosco.
Danny Dias of Don Bosco Oratory was adjudged man-of-the-match. Fr Agnel YSC pocketed Rs 2,000.
