Inter-MEDIA CRICKET HERALD SPORTS DESK PANJIM, APRIL 20 – Goa Electronic Media emerged winners of the 2nd All Goa Inter Press/Media Tennis Ball Cricket Championship held at SAG Cricket ground, Campal on Saturday. In the final, Goa Electronic Media (GEM) defeated Herald by 58 runs. Opting to bat first, GEM scored 110 runs in the allotted10 overs. Pravesh Prabhu scored 52 runs, Amrish Parab 35 were the top scores. Shailesh Naik of O Heraldo was at his best as he took two wickets. In their reply, O Heraldo could score only 45 runs and were all out in 5.5 overs. Manuel scored 20 runs and Yatin scored 12. GEM bowlers Farooq Shaikh and Amrish easily demolished the batting line up of the opponents. The following individual prizes
were awarded: Best Batsman —Shailesh Naik (O Herald), Best Bowler — Farooq Shaikh (Electronic Media) and Man of the Final — Pravesh Prabhu (Electronic Media). Ashok Menon, Director, Directorate of Fire Services was the chief guest while Sharadchandra Naik, President, Sports Journalists Association of Goa was the guest of honour for prize distribution. Goa women players Sharon Dias, Gauri Kundaikar, Sharmila Landge, who represented India in the 2nd Asian Triangular Tennis Ball Cricket series at Kushinagar were also felicitated by the chief guest. Altogether six teams took part in the championship. All the matches were played on league basis and the final on knock-out basis as per the new format of TBCFI rules. Hearesh Parsekar, Ajinkya Naik, Tek Bahadur and Sharmila Naik were the umpires. Earlier, Vaman Prabhu welcomed the guests while Nilesh Naik compered and later proposed vote of thanks. The championship was organised by Goa Newsline and Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association, which was recognised by the Sports Authority of Goa and played as per the rules and regulations of the Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India.
