Lajong humble Mohun Bagan
October 7, 2012
SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong FC kicked off their I-League campaign in style humblingcountry’s oldest club Mohun Bagan 2-0 at JN SportsComplex, here, Saturday.
It was Bagan who had better ball possession
but unfit Odafa and Tolgay, who are recovering from the injury failed to capitalize on the opportunities.
Lajong custodian Lalthuammawia Ralte had a busy evening under the woodwork for which he was later awarded man-of-the-match.
Changing over, Lajong took control and broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when substitute Boithan Haokip connected Sushil Kumar Singh’s flag kick into the net. A minute prior to Haokip’s goal, it was Friday who had found the net but was caught off-side by referee Ajit Meetei.
When the match went into injury time, Lalramluaha Hmar sealed the fate of the game as he headed home Samuel Shadap’s volley.
A crowd of about 14,000 witnessed the match as the local outfit displayed enough discipline and skills to outsmart their fancied rivals.
