Milagres’ brace powers Wilred into semis

MARGAO: Milagres Fernandes’ brace powered Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim to a 4-2 victory over Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association and enter the semi-finals of all-Goa Joao Francisco Pacheco memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club, at Betalbatim spots complex,
Tuesday. Wilred led 2-0 at the break.
Wilred dominated right from the word go and launched a barrage of attacks. Wilred forged ahead when Milagres punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Spurred by the success, Wilred piled on the pressure and doubled their lead when Milagres beat the Benaulim goalkeeper with an adroit placement.
Crossing over, Benaulim put up an improved display and reduced the deficit when Agnelo Rodrigues bulged the net from close range.
Stunned by the reducer, Wilred went into an attacking mode and created many forays into the rival territory. Tony Dias increased their tally with a snap shot.
Stunned by the deficit, Benaulim regrouped quickly and scored through Calver Fernandes.
Peter Pereira made the issue safe for Wilred late in the second half.
