MARGAO: Pax of Nagoa Sports Club downed St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Chinchinim-Deussua Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organized by CRC, Chinchinim at church ground, Chichinim, Monday. Pax of Nagoa led 1-0 at half time.

Pax of Nagoa started on an attacking note and forged ahead in the very second minute when striker Stephen Pereira bulged the net off a pass from Remedios Vaz.

Stung by the setback, St Anthony’s regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp and nearly found the equalizer when Socorro Fernandes’ snap shot was blocked by the Nagoa goalkeeper.

After the scare, Pax of Nagoa went into an attacking mode and nearly doubled the lead when Eusebio Fernandes’s volley was fisted away by the Assolda goalkeeper.

Crossing over, Pax of Nagoa continued to dictate terms and created many scoring chances but their forwards frittered away sitters.

St Anthony’s tried their best and came close to restoring parity but Steven’s shot was saved by the rival goalkeeper.

Pax of Nagoa doubled the lead in the 50^th minute when Eusebio slotted past the rival goalkeeper late in the second half.

Earlier, Royen Viegas Sarpanch of Chinchinim inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Joe Dias, chairman of organizing committee.
