PANJIM: WCM Riya Savant and WIM Ivana Furtado won their respective matches to move into the joint second position in their respective categories in World Youth Chess Championship, in Slovenia.

In the under-12 girls category, Riya (1896) defeated Muratova Saltanant (1796) of Kazakhstan to tally 6.5 points after the eighth round.

In the under-14 girls category, Ivana (2103) got the better of Abdusattorova Bakhora (1813) of Uzbekistan. She is now on six points.

Meanwhile, CM Nitish Belurkar (1846) beat Sheng Joshua (1994) of USA to amass 5.5 points in the under-12 open category.
