MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club came from behind to defeat Carmona Sports Club 6-5 via the tie-breaker to sail into the quarter-finals of All-Goa Chinchinim-Deussua Panchayt Cup inter-village football tournament organized by CRC,Chinchinim at church ground, Chinchinim, Thursday. Areal were trailing 0-1 at half time.

Carmona started positively and forged ahead in the 4th minute when striker Alex Rodrigues bulged the net.

Areal tried their best to get into the match, but their forwards failed to get past the rival alert defence.

Carmona had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards frittered away scoring chances.

After the break, Areal made concerted efforts but they could not get past the rival defence.

Midway in the second session, Areal exerted suatained pressure and their attacks bore

fruit when Agio Antao’s flag kick dipped into the rival goal where it deflected off a defender, eluding the goalkeeper.

In the penalty shoot-out, Agio Antao, Mario Rebello, Bersel Viegas, Francis Baretto and

Mariano Baretto were on target for Areal while Pollyson D’Sa ,Neil D’Cruz, Valeriano Fernandes and Mohammed Shaikh converted for Carmona.
