PANJIM: Laying emphasis on the importance of sports medicine after conducting a series of courses on 'CPR and management of on-field injuries, the GFDC will organize a special seminar on December 9 from 9 a.m.

The faculty will consist of doctors from NIS, Patiala, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad and Symbiosis International University, Pune.

The topics will include doping, nutritional requirements of footballers, psychological approaches to injuries and rehabilitation in football, talent identification (tap them young), training methodology for attaining peak performance, football injuries.

Member secretary Elvis Gomes stated that the seminar was high in the agenda of chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro and that through his good offices Dr Vece Paes, former hockey Olympian and father of tennis star Leander Paes will speak on long term development of an athlete (footballer) and role of deliberate practice in attaining expertise in the sport.

The outstation specialists include Dr Ashok Ahuja, Dr Venkata Ramana, Dr Sanjeev Sahni, Dr Ashish Phulkar and Dr Sheel Sheth.
