Taleigao academy initiates chess scholarship for kids

PANJIM, MARCH 18 – The Taleigao Chess Academy Sports Club has initiated a chess scholarship scheme for children below 12 years of age, who stand in the first top 10 in any all Goa chess tournament affiliated to the academy. The scholarship includes a sum of Rs 1000 per month and will be effective from October to September. Applications will be accepted from deserving children up to first Saturday of October. On the basis of funds available on September 30 every year, executive committee members and special invitee members will select the children on first Sunday of October every year. The move came into consideration at the executive meeting of the academy held at Dynasty Manor, Odlembhat-Taleigao, recently. Other programmes finalised for the calender year 2008-09 are as follows: A
basic chess course for government primary school teachers will be conducted in April and on completion a chess tournament will be conducted among the participants and will be issued participation certificates. The meet also decided not to organise any age group selection chess tournaments for Goa State Chess Association unless a written request comes from the association to hold such events at least two months in advance. CEO of Taleigao Chess Academy Shrikant Barve was granted permission to hold a speech on “Vision of TCA for Goa for next five years” to be delivered on “Holichess” on March 22, at SAG complex, Campal. It was also decided to invite presidents of nearby chess activity centres/clubs, SAG Chess coach at Campal, Panjim for executive committee meeting.
