PANJIM: Vishwananth had the last laugh against Ganesh BK in a thrilling 34 bouts final to emerge the champion of men’s sub-junior category of 16th State
Boxing Championship organized by Goa Amateur Boxing Association at indoor stadium, Campal, here, Wednesday.
SAI Ponda won the team championship in the senior division
One of the outstanding women's bout was between Madhubala Kamble of SAI Peddem and Amanda Dias of Margao Boxing Club in the 54kg weight category. Madhubala proved her superiority and won the bout.
Individual prizes – (Women’s category) Best boxer: Anju Rajbhar. Most promising boxer: Neha Prasad. Best loser: Pooja Kumari Ram.
Sub-junior men’s category -- Best boxer: Akshay Borkar.
Most promising boxer: Ishwar Pujari.
Junior men’s category: Best boxer: Pralhad Panda. Most promising boxer: Kevin George.
Senior men’s category: Best boxer: Vinod Kaisare. Most promising boxer: Ganesh BK.
Team championship (sub-junior): Panjim Boxing Club, Margao Boxing Club. Team championship (juniors): Panjim Boxing Club, SAI Ponda. Team championship (seniors): SAI Ponda, Panjim Boxing Club.
In all, 10 teams participated including Panjim Boxing Club, RCC Panjim, Peoples, SAI Ponda, SAI Peddem, Mapusa Boys, Saligao Boxing Club, St Joseph’s HS, St Anthony HS and Margao Boxing Club.
This was the first time that the Goa State Boxing Championship recorded 202 boxers. Thirty-two women also took part.
Victoria Fernandes, ex-MLA and president of Goa Amateur Boxing Association was the chief guest for the prize distribution. Filipe Dias, vice-president was the guest of honour.
