Kamaldeep converted an early spot-kick after Franzil received a direct red card; Pankaj doubled the lead in the 12th minute while Seriton scored the third in the second session

MAPUSA: A second minute spot-kick by Kamaldeep Singh, a spectacular goal by Pankaj Sona and an easy tap in by Seriton Fernandes in the second session was all it took for Churchill Bros Sports Club as they grounded ten-men Sporting Clube de Goa in a Round One match of the Goa Pro League Football, at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.

Sporting Clube de Goa coach Mateus Costa suffered a major jolt in his as their team were down to ten-men in the very second minute.

A cross by Churchill SC’s right winger Seriton Fernandes created havoc inside the Sporting Clube box as defender Franzil Negredo brought down Nicholas Fernandes only to receive a direct red card from referee Parmanand Mandrekar.

Sporting Clube custodian Kamaljit Singh could not do much as Kamaldeep Singh blasted off the resultant spot-kick.

Minutes later, Sporting Clube had to sacrifice striker Sumeet Passi in place of medio Clement Joseph as Jovel Martins shouldered the responsibility of a left wing back.

However, it did not do any good as no one could stop Pankaj Sona from doubling Churchill Bros SC’s lead. In the 12th minute, the striker swung in a spectacular in-swinging flag-kick that beat both, the rival defence and custodian Kamaljit.

With two goals down, it was hard fight for the Panjim outfit to bounce back into the match but they managed to strike their rhythm and created a couple of opportunities.

In the 25th minute, Sporting Clube skipper Cajetan Fernandes sent in a perfect through ball to Marcus but Subhasish Bose came up with a timely tackle.

At the other end, The Red Machines from Varca continued in search of their third goal but Nicholas Fernandes headed over from close range off a cross by Seriton.

Just before the lemon break, Jesmon Soares missed an open scoring opportunity as Sporting Clube were left frustrated.

Post resumption, Sporting Clube made a double substitution in the 55th minute as Mauvin Borges and Marcus Mascarenhas made way for Alber Gonsalves and Ndidi Chukwuma respectively.

Sporting Clube were very unfortunate as Cajetan saw his rasping right-footer hit the upright and off the rebound, Souvik Das’ goal bound shot was blocked by Kamaldeep.

Finally, in the 78th minute, Seriton rounded off the rival custodian to make it 3-0.
