FATORDA: Dempo Sports Club got the better of Gangtok Himalayan Football Club 3-0 to remain in the top spot of the Second Division I-League, at Nehru Stadium, here, on Thursday.

In the first half, Dempo SC were leading 1-0.

Dempo SC dominated the proceedings right from the start with wingers Romeo Fernandes and Mandar Rao Dessai working their magic.

The first threat was created by Dempo SC in the eighth minute through a fierce shot by Holicharan Narzary which was eventually cleared to safety by the rival goalkeeper Shambhu Mistry.

Striker Felix Odili Chidi set up Mandar with a perfect through ball and the latter unleashed a venomous shot for the opener in the 19th minute.

Within two minutes, Romeo passed the ball to Felix but the Nigerian saw his effort blocked by the rival keeper.

In the second half, Dempo SC started with renewed ideas and scored two goals.

Mandar scored his brace from the left flank as his shot curled to the far corner in the 83rd minute after an assist by substitute Bevan D’Mello.

In the 85th minute, Dempo SC sealed three points as Holicharan converted a penalty as rival defender Karan Atwal intentionally blocked Beevan in the danger zone.
