The Cuncolim school edge past St Rock HS 5-2 via tie-breaker while the Chandor school pip Infant Jesus HS 5-3 via shoot-out
CHINCHINIM: Our Lady of Health HS, Cuncolim edged past St Rock High School, Tolencanto-Velim 5-2 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-final of the Second edition of the St Joseph Vaz Soccer Cup, 9-a-side inter-school football tournament, organised by Mount Mary’s Educational Complex, Chinchinim, at Our lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim on Tuesday.
In the sixth minute, Cuncolim’s Cavin Pinto found Ivon Fernandes lurking in the rival box, but the latter’s goal bound shot was blocked by St Rock’s defender Cletus Pinto.
St Rock had a glorious opportunity to take the lead in the tenth minute but Asfin Pinto failed to guide Renson’s effort in the goal with only the keeper at his mercy.
It took 27 minutes for St Rock to open the account when Cletus Pinto dribbled past couple of rival defenders and shot past the helpless keeper off Asfin Pinto’s assit.
Within six minutes Meawon Fernandes headed in to equalise for Cuncolim of Aliston Fernandes connect.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Our lady of Health, Cuncolim proved to be better shooters.
In another match, St Joseph Educational Institute Chandor defeated Infant Jesus High School, Colva 5-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-final.
Chandor netted the first goal through Rolson Rodrigues in the 8th minute.
Colva team equalised within two minutes through Samson.
Aliston Costa doubled the lead for Chandor in the 15th minutes,
while Johnson Fernandes levelled terms for Colva in the dying minute of second half.
In the resultant tie-breaker, the Chandor School proved to be better shooters.
