CURTORIM: St Anthony SC Colva got the better of St Sebastian UC Benaulim 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Wilred Leisure Soccer tournament, organised by Wilred Leisure Curtorim, at Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs ground Curtorim, on Thursday.
St Sebastian had the first chance of the match when Steven Baptista cleverly crossed the ball to Caetininho but the latter’s goal bound header was brilliantly saved by the Colva keeper Joemiro Fernandes in the fifth minute.
At the other end, Colva almost took the lead when Denzil Coutinho found Roger Lourenco lurking in the rival box, but the latter’s effort was denied by the rival post in the 12th minute.
Teny Fernandes’ of Colva, moved was foiled by Rody Fernandes, defender of St Sebastian, in the 16th minute.
St Sebastian’s Laxmikant Kurade and Arif Pathan’s tricky set piece failed to get past the rival defence as Jesus Cardozo thwarted their goal bound effort.
Faizel Bepari opened the account for St Sebastian UC in the 20th minute.
St Sebastian led 1-0 at the break.
Crossing ends, Roger Lourence of St Anthony shot wide off Teny Fernandes’ assist in the 47th minute.
Inacio Fernandes equalised for St Anthony SC Colva in the 65th minute.
The scores were level 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, St Anthony SC, Colva netted through Ruby Fernandes, Joseph Pereira, Maxon Fernandes and Roger Lourenco, while Rodney Fernandes, Faizel Bepari and Stevan Baptista scored for St Sebastian UC, Benaulim.
St Anthony SC, Colva will meet the winners of Sao Jose de Areal and Cuncolim Union in the quarter-final on February 21.
