MAPUSA: Youth Club of Manora played their hearts out to register a hard fought 1-0 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Professional League, at Duler Stadium, on Thursday.

The win put Manora on 10 points while Vasco SC stay on 13 points. In the 2nd minute a neat cross by Manora skipper Nicholas Fernandes was timely cleared with a header by Vasco's Karan Shirodkar before U20 Melisho Camotio could connect it.

Manora forged ahead in the 25th minute when Nicholas Fernandes’ cross into the box saw keeper Risven Fernandes leave his charge and punch the ball against his own defender Neville Alexender and Melisho who was closely following slammed the ball into the unguarded goal, 1-0.

The Port Towners brought life into their match in the last five minutes of the first half. Vasco's U20 Desmon Gama and Denil Rebello’s goal-bound strikes missed the target narrowly.

The best chance for Manora to inflate their lead came in the first minute of stoppage time. Melisho flashed a cross in the goal area to an unmarked Jason Barbosa at the far post, who failed to score.

On resumption, Vasco Coach Micky made two changes introducing striker Joaquim Abranches and medio U20 Savlon Fernandes. This move almost paid dividend where Abranches sent a low square pass to well positioned Sanwil D'Costa, whose rasping 25-yard shot was fisted for a corner by keeper Luis Barreto.

Another glorious chance went in vain for Vasco where Joaquim played a quick free-kick to Denil Rebello who in turn squared the ball to Mathew Colaco but before the latter could pull the trigger Manora defender Aditya cleared the ball for a corner.
