Goa Velha Sports Club will continue their run in the Goa Professional League but with key players missing as they prepare for the new season.
Freddy Oliveira is out due to a knee injury. Jayganesh Goltekar and Valinton D’Silva have left to join Sesa FA. Joyner Lourenco, Joston Pereira, Pedro Gonsalves, Siddesh Morje and Mario Mascarenhas have moved to Sporting Clube de Goa and Joshua Rebello has signed for Churchill Brothers.
Goa Velha over the years has produced players who represented the State at different levels like Domnic Cabral, Richard Nunes, Francisco Rodrigues, Vishant Pednekar, Reagan Fernandes, Sidroy Afonso, Lector Caiado and Tyson Caiado.
Goa Velha manager Welvin Menezes is happy to see many of his players picked up by professional teams and hopes his club becomes the nursery for football in the north.
The club was formed under the presidency of late Dr. Maximo Menezes in 1969. Forty years later his grandson, Welvin had the privilege of seeing the team become the first village club from the north to be promoted to the Goa Professional League in 2008.
“The main aim for the club this season is to improve on its position in the Goa Pro League and also qualify for the second round stage of the Federation Cup”, Welvin stated.
The coaching staff includes Lino Pereira, Seby Noronha, Agnelo Fernandes while Welvin continues as the manager.
The players: Agnelo Noronha, Rowan Colaco (gk). Stanley D'Silva, Savio Fernandes, Nelson Fernandes, Ramesh Martins, Gaurish Naik, Stanley Lopes (defenders), Zico Costa, Augusto Monteiro, Cruz Gomes, Trevor Dias, Agnelo Quadros, Joy Gonsalves, Alber Gonsalves (midfielders), Donald Rocha, Elvis Lopes, Blake Haldankar (forwards).
Goa Velha hopes to sign a few more players before the end of the transfer window to strengthen their squad.
