MARGAO: Responding to the statements made by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’souza on red category projects, the villagers of Amdai, Sanguem who live near the Vani Agro beer factory area have demanded that the government revoke all permissions to the project.
On Saturday, D’Souza had said he was against red category projects and the villagers pointed out that the Vani Agro beer factory project is a red category project.
“We thank the deputy chief minister for making his stand clear on red category projects. In view of our fight to save our village and his comments, we demand that the deputy chief minister take up this issue at the next Cabinet meeting and revoke all permissions,” said Anny Fernandes, a Sanguem villager.
She further said that the deputy chief minister should see that the notification issued by the Investment Promotion Board, consent to establish issued by Goa State Pollution Control Board, NOC issued by the Sanguem Municipal Council, Water Resources Department, Excise department, Primary health centre etc should be revoked,
The villagers also demanded that the deputy chief minister revoke the notification issued by the department of industries converting 1,24,000 square meters area as industrial promotion area. Such a revocation, the villagers contend, would protect prime agricultural lands, orchard area, thousands of coconut and cashew trees, Ugem River, natural water spring, tribal village and paddy fields.
