PANJIM: Following allegations of corruption, the State government has ordered the transfer of Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) municipal engineers Shuba Sawant Amonkar and John Abreu to the office of Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA).
In an order issued on Thursday by Urban Development Director Elvis Gomes, Abreu and Amonkar have been transferred and directed to report to DMA with immediate effect in public interest.
At the council meeting last week, it was resolved to take action against these municipal engineers for allegedly fraudulently granting permission to Reliance Pvt Ltd to lay fiber optic lines in the city resulting in a loss to CCP amounting to crores of rupees.
The City Corporation had also decided to file a police complaint against deputy commissioner Kapil Phadte and former commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues for the fraud. Accordingly, Mayor Surendra Furtado had written to the State government seeking the transfer of Phadte and other officials involved in the alleged corruption.
