Love songs and much more

Tina Travasso’s first audio album, ‘Poilo Mog’, carries 10 songs in the form of solos and duets rendered by some of the noted singers of the Konkani stage.
Opening and title song ‘Poilo Mog’ by Tina Travasso is a journey of friendship and love, from school to college days. The singer says that when she was in school, her boyfriend too was in the same class and both commuted together in the bus. One fine day, when the boy offered a friendship band, love began to grow. The couple decided to stand firm in love and unite in marriage.
The next song, ‘Novim Bhurgim’ by Lawry Travasso, speaks about amateurs making entry on stage and the support they require in order to get new tiatrists on the Konkani stage.
Many youngsters are dreaming of making it big on the tiatr stage, but they need a word of appreciation and encouragement, he says. When an amateur makes it on stage as a singer or actor, there are many who will criticise, till he makes an exit from the stage forever. Boys and girls need support from other tiatrists and when they falter, let us extend our help. By doing so, the singer concludes, we will be able to preserve the Konkani language on the tiatr stage.
‘Titanic Boat’, a solo by Jr Reagan, is a narration of how the Titanic boat came into existence. Thomas Andrew thought of constructing a boat like never before, he says, and he was successful in his venture. Passengers appreciated his creation, but pride took over and the boat creator started challenging God.
He also shares the disaster that followed thereafter. Pride has a fall, the singer says and requests the listener to grow in love of Jesus and Mary for blessings to follow.
Two songs in the album – ‘Mhaka London Vochunk Zai’ by Richard and a duet ‘Azun Chakonk Na’ by Valentino and Janice – carry humour in them. The former is a plea to go to London and avoid any objection. Once in London, he tells his father, he will work and fall in love with a foreigner. If his father objects, then he threatens to sell his house and the cowshed. He even resolves to dump his father in the home for the aged.
The latter is a conversation between husband and wife and the issue to grumble is about complexion. It also throws light on utilisation of ‘Fair and Lovely’ cream and its after-effects, especially during the monsoons.
Songs ‘Ugddas Tuzo’ by Antonette de Maina, ‘Pixem Mogachem’, a duet by Benzer and Tina, ‘Tunch Mhojea Mogacho by Janice and ‘Tujea Pasot’, a duet by Bushka and Elick Vaz are love stories related in different styles, with several comparisons and similes. They all carry one common theme—love—with promises to stay true till the end.
‘Koxtt Korun Pott Bhor’, a solo by Rosario de Benaulim, highlights the importance of work. He narrates a story of an elderly woman in Margao market who toils every day to earn her living. She refuses to beg, the singer says, but prefers to work and earn her daily bread. The singer advises everyone to follow the example of the woman and work when the limbs are strong and fit.
With music by Elick Vaz, the album has been recorded at Manfa’s Studio, Margao by Alfin Fernandes. A variety in the theme of the songs, besides rendition in the form of duo, trio and quartet would have enriched the album.
