WORKING TOWARDS A CLEANER GOA

The Parish Pastoral Council of Bom Jesus Church, Nachinola, on the occasion of 150th Gandhi Jayanti organised an awareness-cum-cleanliness drive. The campaign began at 8:30 am after a short prayer service by the parish priest, Fr Francis Fernandes. It was followed by a short awareness to conscientise the parishioners about our planet – Earth, to preserve it and keep it green and clean and to keep it plastic free. They also promoted the use of cloth bags instead of plastic. The Parish Youth under the leadership of Russel D Cruz taught the parishioners to make paper bags as an initiative by Jasmin Rocha.

Fr Domnic Cruz, son of the soil and member of the garbage management committee at the Panchayat also gave a small talk regarding the disposal and garbage management.

Solid Waste Management Corporation, Goa Government Engineer, Dheeraj Chondankar was also present at the occasion and appreciated this good project carried on by the parish and promised all support. The village panchayat of Nachinola provided bags, gloves and face masks and also refreshments for the people. All six wards of Nachinola were covered under the drive. The children prepared posters to remind people to keep the place clean. After much effort by all the parishioners as well as the parish priest, the locality looked spic and span.
