The Russians are around and so are tourists from various other countries. However, as rightly pointed out in your editorial dated August 14, it is strange how the Russians think that they can expect of us to learn Russian in schools, when we are still undecided on our own Medium Of Instruction (MOI). We are already confused and the Russians just seem to be wanting to add to the confusion.

Opinion poll for Mopa
There is so much opposition for the new airport at Mopa, but the ex-Congress led government as well as the present Manohar Parrikar- led governments are going ahead with this project. The location of Mopa airport will be beneficial to the neighbouring Maharastra.
The Goa government can have talks with their Maharastra counterparts and start a new airport in Sawantwadi district which is close to Goa. The native Goan population and the generation to come ,will be displaced forever from their land as large chunks fertile agriculture land is acquired by the government and by relatives of politicians and by non -Goans, see ,Massive land Loot For Mopa Airport” ( August13,2012).
The International Aviation rules does not permit two international airport in close proximity .Dabolim is centrally located for all Goans. The majority of Goans are against the new airport. If India is the largest democracy in the world, the will of majority of people should prevail.
I strongly suggest that an Opinion Poll should be held to decide whether Goans are for new airport or against it, and while conducting this opinion, even the youth should be taken into consideration. If the result are against the new airport then all the farmers land should be returned back to the original farmers. I suggest Ramakhant Khalap ex- Law Minister- who was against passing the Konkan Railways through the hinterland way back in early nineties- should now come to help the natives Goans by protecting their land from land sharks and mafia builders.
By conducting the Opinion Poll in this year we Goans can really feel,we are celebrating 50 years of Goa’s Liberation.

Need clever answers
I read with interest your survey on what we think about Statehood.published on August 15. I have my reservations about such a finding because as I was going through some of the statistics provided in the survey, I realized that under the “Age Group” section only 90 per cent of the people were questioned. What happened to the other ten ? And how was the percentage then worked out? Any clever answers ?
