PANJIM: If all goes well, monsoon is expected to reach Goa by June 7, as the current conditions are quite favourable for its onset, Meteorological Department has said.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday announced that conditions are becoming favourable for monsoon to set over Kerala on June 1 or 2. The normal date for onset over Kerala is June 1.

IMD Goa in-charge KV Singh said, “conditions seem conducive for the advance of southwest monsoon over the Kerala coast and thereafter Goa”. After the onset of the monsoon over Kerala coast, it takes about a week for it to reach Goa, he added.

“Everything depends on monsoon currents. But the present situation is very good,” Singh stated.

Last year also, the Southwest monsoon had reached Goa on June 7 and had received over 100 inches rainfall.

Meanwhile, pre-monsoon showers continued to lash the State on Thursday. IMD has also predicted rain and thundershowers.

The maximum and minimum temperature for the day remained between 32.4 and 24.6 degree Celsius, respectively.
