PANJIM: One call does it all. Simply put. If you have a problem with the key to the main door at home or if the air conditioner malfunctions, then all you have to do is make a call. Services that usually first made their presence felt in the big cities of the country have now decided it makes a lot of sense to launch in places like Goa. ServiSingh launched in Goa on November 21 this year. Anyone looking for a plumber, maid, electrician, painter or even pay school fees have to just call the company number.
Put simply the company is an online service aggregator and multi-facility management company. You can place a request for all kinds of household services like electrician,
plumber, mason, carpenter, all kinds of tutors, professional services etc, from wherever you are, at the touch of a button either through the app or the website in three simple steps. You can also recharge your phones, pay electricity bills, pay school fees, buy product insurance and extend product warranties. And for every transactions that you do on Servisingh.com, you get local and online coupons.
As everyone knows, life in Goa may be very charming but there are also several hurdles one has to learn to deal with. The pump not working and the local handy man promises to come but does not at the appointed time. The three men behind this idea Gurunath Bichu, Shaid Akhtar and Ashish Kumar have been associates for a while. In 2002, Gurunath Bichu, started Friend’s Collection as a stand-alone showroom for gifts in Goa. It sold high end perfumes, cosmetics, glassware, crystal ware, dinnerware, pens, etc. Over a period of time it became one of the famous name for all types of branded perfumes and lifestyle products. In the year 2012, he started another showroom which dealt in kitchenware, bar ware etc and it also catered to the hospitality industry. Over a period of time it became
distributors for many national and international brands. The crash in the tourism industry convinced him it was time to move on to a different model. In 2014, he went online by launching www.friendscollection.com which dealt in all types of lifestyle products. In 2015 after successful stint in various verticals and line of business, Friend’s Collection launched Servisingh.com.
Gurunath said he intended to make it the country’s largest and preferred service aggregator. Shahid Akhtar MD and CEO said “We conducted research and our experience revealed that there was a tremendous scope. There was a huge pain point”.
The launch in November has already resulted in a good response with 25 calls coming in every day. To ensure good response from the market everything is free, this was also done to help counter the apprehension since this was a very new concept in Goa. The most popular queries are for carpenters, electricians, AC mechanics, pest control and even coconut pluckers.
To guarantee the security of the clients all the details along with passport size photographs and other IDs are kept with the company. However shortly the company intends to charge the service providers anywhere between 5-10% depending on the service provided. The founders invested in the region of Rs 2.5 crore and intend to go out looking for funding in the new future. This will be necessary since they intend to go national. In January they will be unveiling this service in Pune, then Hyderabad. Eventually it will go to Mumbai. In these markets there are local players present and the company has had a team working in these markets for a while now.
Asked what the plans for the future he said they intended to launch the service in 12 cities and move in to more categories. Presently they are in 50 categories. They intend to start payment of school fees and intend to rope in all the big schools in this facility. They will also give extensions to warranties on products. The consumer will have to buy that warranty from Servisingh. A notification will be sent. This will be applicable for appliances.
Shahid said the future of the country was in the smaller towns and grade 2 and 3 cities and the growth would be fuelled by rural India. Servisingh was just an indicator of that shisft.
